Northern Portugal & Southern Spain –  Cruise Summary

A cruise to stimulate the senses and delight the tastebuds, incredible sights and destinations await as we set sail from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon to the stunning coastlines of the Iberian Peninsula. Explore stylish Porto on a scenic boat trip along the Douro River followed by a taste of the city’s most famous export, port wine.

Settle into your home away from home with a day at sea to relax and unwind, before stepping ashore in Cádiz, historic gateway to the New World, where the buildings of the old quarter seem to shimmer with silver when bathed in pure white sunlight.

From here you will also have a chance to visit Jerez de la Frontera for a sampling of its most famous export, Sherry, before being invited to an authentic bodega, for practical insights into traditional Spanish cuisine during a tapas cookery class.

Alternatively, enjoy a daytrip to the magical city of Seville, birthplace of Flamenco, and discover its greatest UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Alcazar Royal Palace, once described as a vision of heaven on earth.

On the Gibraltar Peninsula, meet the cheeky animal inhabitants of the Rock of Gibraltar, or visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gorham’s Cave, where Neanderthals once lived.

Explore the captivating old town of Alicante, Barrio de la Santa Cruz on the Costa Blanca, then take a lift or stroll to the summit of Mount Benacantil, for the historic Castillo de Santa Bárbara and some breathtaking views of the Mediterranean coastline.

Spain’s third largest city, Valencia, holds an outstanding place in the nation’s cultural history. Legend has it, this is where Spain’s national dish, paella, was invented, while the architectural wonders of the City of Arts and Sciences must be seen to be believed.

Day 2 – Porto, Portugal

Berthing time: 08:00 Departure time: 20:00

Day 4 – Cadiz (Seville), Spain

Berthing time: 08:00 Departure time: 23:30
Cádiz in Andalusia is a Spanish port city built on a headland and surrounded by the sea on almost all sides. The more than 100 watchtowers traditionally looked out for merchant and expedition ships. Cádiz is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe and is characterised by a winding old town with many small squares.

Day 5 – Gibraltar

Berthing time: 07:00 Departure time: 14:00
On the Gibraltar peninsula you almost feel like you are in a small English town: there are inviting pubs, red telephone boxes and the typical British mailboxes. Only the weather is better – almost 2,800 hours of sunshine a year invite you to explore. Visit the Rock of Gibraltar with its cheeky animal inhabitants or Gorham’s Cave.

Day 6 – Alicante, Spain

Berthing time: 10:00 Departure time: 20:00

Between the narrow streets of the picturesque old town of Valencia rises the impressive cathedral, home of the “Holy Grail”. A stark contrast to this is the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències – the futuristic buildings in the former riverbed of the Turia in the Spanish port city look like landed spaceships.
