Menorca, Salerno & Islands of Italy Cruise Summary

Sailing from the Maltese capital of Valletta, take a sight-seeing tour of Menorca in the Balearic Islands, featuring an exclusive wine and cheese tasting event. Or enjoy a guided hike through the diverse natural habitats of the S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park. Alternatively, climb the peninsula of La Mola, where the 19th-century stone fortress is one of the most important historic landmarks in the archipelagos.

On the island of Corsica, visit the reputed birthplace of Christopher Columbus, in the fishing town of Calvi, where the view is dominated by an imposing citadel at the mouth of the bay. Then cruise to Elba for a stroll in the footsteps of Napoleon Bonaparte, during a tour of the capital, Portoferraio, before enjoying a taste of some locally made wine.

Lively Olbia combines Sardinian flair with fabulous beaches and chic boutiques. Take a panoramic trip along the Costa Smeralda, where the water is like the Caribbean. Then spend some time in the pretty resort of Porto Cervo, or the archipelago La Maddalena, for some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia.

On the Amalfi Coast, sail among the fashionable yachts and glitterati, to arrive at the beautifully situated port city of Salerno, southeast of Naples, which has a fine cathedral, a centuries-old castle and a museum of medieval coins and ceramics.

A highlight of any cruise to the Campania region is of course the most famous historic site in the world, the archaeological park of Pompeii, destroyed during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Alternatively, a tour of Naples is also available, as is one of the most beautiful drives in Europe, a trip along the stunning Amalfi Coast to the splendid Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Positano, as well as the magnificent town of Ravello, perched high above the Bay of Salerno and a vision of antique towers, graceful arches and flowering gardens.

In Sicily, discover the beautiful city of Messina on a guided walking tour, or visit enchanting Taormina to learn more about this glamourous hilltop town, where highlights include the 3rd-century BC Graeco-Roman Theatre, for magical views of Mount Etna.

Cinema fans may also like to take a scenic drive into the mountains, for the remote villages of Savoca and Forza d’Agrò, used to create the eponymous seat of the Corleone family in the epic Godfather saga.
